Southend made it four wins out of five by seeing off play-off-chasing Scunthorpe at Roots Hall.

The Shrimpers took advantage of Iron's makeshift back four, with Theo Robinson collecting Anthony Grant's pass, rounding Joe Murphy and slotting home.

Alan McCormack made the points safe late on when he fired in after Lee Barnard's shot hit a defender.

Steve Mildenhall twice saved from Gary Hooper and Paul Hayes headed against the bar as Iron went close.
