Peterborough earned a narrow win over Carlisle to close the gap on second-placed MK Dons to one point.
Aaron Mclean rifled home from 10 yards to score his sixth goal in seven matches after goalkeeper Ben Williams blocked Chris Whelpdale's shot.
Mclean spared the blushes of his strike partner Craig Mackail-Smith who had earlier fluffed a great headed chance.
The win was soured by the loss of Gabriel Zakuani to a back injury and a hamstring strain for Lee Frecklington.
