Marc Tierney's early goal was enough to earn Colchester all three points at home against Stockport.

Hatters boss Jim Gannon will hold talks with Brighton on Wednesday, so it could have been his last game in charge.

Tierney headed in off the underside of the bar from Kem Izzet's cross to win it, before U's keeper Jimmy Walker saved brilliantly from Johnny Mullins.

Izzet and David Perkins both went close twice as Colchester could have increased their advantage.
