Southend 0-1 Crewe

Crewe claimed only their second away win of the season to earn three useful points in their relegation battle.

The Railwaymen took the lead in the 35th minute when left wing-back Billy Jones curled a fine 25-yard free-kick into the top right-hand corner.

Blues' best chance of the match came when Theo Robinson forced John Ruddy into a diving save with a volley.

Tom Pope should have scored for Crewe in the 70th minute but missed a sitter after latching onto a Jones free-kick.
