Prolific striker George Boyd was the two-goal hero as Peterborough were pushed all the way before beating rock-bottom Crewe 4-2 at London Road.
Tom Pope slotted the struggling Railwaymen into a second-minute lead before a second-half Posh recovery.
Boyd levelled on 50 minutes and three minutes later Aaron McLean tucked away his 12th goal of the season.
Pope headed a leveller before Dean Keates's shot Posh ahead on 69 minutes with Boyd scoring a late fourth.
