Rui Marques and Richard Naylor headers were enough to give Leeds victory over Southend and extend their winning run to three games.
Angola international Marques climbed to nod home Bradley Johnson's sixth minute corner for his first of the season.
Shortly afterwards, Johnson took a short corner to Andy Robinson and his cross was headed in by Naylor.
Theo Robinson came closest for the visitors with a powerful drive that flashed inches wide.
