Oldham dominated the north-west derby against Stockport to keep up the pressure on the top two in League One.
Danny Whitaker curled in from 20 yards to open the scoring before Lee Hughes collected a Dean Windass flick to grab his 15th goal of the campaign.
Oli Johnson headed home a lifeline for Stockport before half time.
But Chris Taylor killed off the visitors when he ran on to a superb touch from Windass, dashed 30 yards before slotting into the bottom corner.
