The defender headed home Chris Palmer's corner as the visitors were denied by a string of fine saves from Clayton Ince.
The home keeper was in fine form and produced a brilliant 57th-minute point-blank stop to deny Dominic Blizzard.
Walsall lost Michael Ricketts was he was sent off for a second yellow card, but managed to hang on for the win.
