Aaron Mclean grabbed the only goal as Peterborough edged past the 10 men of fellow promotion-hopefuls Millwall.
Mclean found the net with a well-placed 23rd-minute shot after being sent clear by strike partner Craig Mackail-Smith.
But Posh could not turn their numerical advantage into more goals despite Millwall having defender Tony Craig dismissed for elbowing Chris Whelpdale.
Mackail-Smith saw an effort ruled out for offside and shot wide while Gary Alexander headed wide for the Lions.

"It was a big set-back for us last week, I had to pick the lads up this week.
"The best way to get back from a defeat is how you respond and we got the win so I'm pleased.
"I think that's as good as we've been in a while in the first half."
"Getting a player sent off in the first half-hour of the game obviously has a bearing on how the games goes.
"I didn't think today that we played the best, we can pass the ball better and we're a lot more capable in possession.
"We certainly didn't give up and we kept going until the end which was pleasing."
