A Lee Hughes brace helped end Oldham's winless run with victory over Crewe, who remain at the foot of the table.
A lively start saw Greg Fleming deny Crewe's Eugen Bopp while at the other end Hughes shot wide.
Darren Byfield broke the deadlock on 58 minutes when he drilled the ball under Crewe keeper Stuart Tomlinson.
Hughes put the match beyond Crewe with a pinpoint finish from the edge of the box before he nodded in Lewis Alessandra's cross on 85 minutes.
