Walsall survived a determined late challenge from Northampton to hold on for their first win in six games.
Chris Palmer fired Walsall ahead with his first goal for the Saddlers and his corner sparked a scramble which saw Anthony Gerrard touch in their second.
Walsall looked safe when Palmer's shot was blocked and Troy Deeney looped the ball over keeper Frank Fielding.
But Leon Constantine headed in after Giles Coke hit the crossbar to spark Northampton's late charge.
