Midfielder Christophe is on loan at Southend from Portsmouth

Jean Francois Christophe's injury-time equaliser rescued a point for Southend.

Peter Clarke fired Southend in front from 15 yards following Dan Harding's free-kick, and Francis Laurent netted from Lee Sawyer's cross to make it 2-0.

Johnnie Jackson scored with a deflected free-kick and Mark Yeates drove in an equaliser after riding several tackles.

Anthony Wordsworth headed home John White's cross to put Colchester ahead, but Cristophe bundled the ball in after Clarke nodded on Kevin Betsy's corner.
