Home keeper Steve Phillips saved Anthony Elding's first half header.
Rovers improved in the second half, and Danny Coles almost opened the scoring when he struck the outside of a post.
Phillips made a stunning save from Elding 18 minutes from time.
Crewe keeper Steve Collis also played his part by stretching to keep out a late header from Jeff Hughes.
