Brighton duo Ian Westlake and Glenn Murray each scored as they helped their side to a victory over Bristol Rovers.
Brighton also had keeper Michel Kuipers to thank for their victory in a game which saw them eventually break the deadlock after 71 minutes.
Westlake opened the scoring when he pounced to net in a goalmouth scramble.
And, five minutes later, Murray made sure of the points by heading in a deep cross from Dean Cox in the last game of the season at the Memorial Stadium.
Brighton manager Dean Wilkins paid tribute to his club's 800 travelling fans on BBC Southern Counties Radio:
"It is the best [support] in the division by an absolute mile and I'd like to thank them on behalf of the staff, players and the whole club for their magnificent support.
"After Leeds won on Friday it looks like we have missed out on the play-offs, so the amount of fans turning out here today was quite phenomenal."
