Tresor Kandol's first goal since November earned Leeds a point but they remain winless under Gary McAllister. Nicky Maynard's 47th-minute goal threatened to give Crewe victory until Kandol's 86th minute header.
Midfielder Gary Roberts released Maynard and defender Rui Marques was too late to prevent a 12-yard shot.
Casper Ankergren saved from the other Gary Roberts before Kandol headed home substitute Seb Carole's cross from the left wing in the final stages.
