Luke Beckett struck his 10th goal of the season to give Huddersfield their fifth victory in six league games. Beckett made no mistake with his penalty after he was held back by Zak Whitbread in the 29th minute.
Moments earlier home skipper Rob Page's header from a Robbie Williams corner was cleared off the line by Marc Laird.
Beckett forced Rhys Evans into a reflex save after the break and Matt Glennon denied the Lions' Ahmet Brkovic with his feet after a superb Laird pass.
