Both sides dropped out of League One at Saltergate despite Jamie Ward's inspiring display for Chesterfield. Ward's one-man show got underway in the 15th-minute when a dreadful error by Bradford goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts allowed him to open the scoring.
Ward grabbed his second when he slotted home from close-range after Derek Niven's shot had struck a post.
Chesterfield's win was sealed when Ward broke clear and his low cross was turned into his own net by Mark Bower.
