QPR have been in administration |
Queens Park Rangers manager Ian Holloway believes the club are close to emerging from a dark period in its history after reaching the Second Division play-off final. A Paul Furlong goal propelled QPR into a play-off final clash with Cardiff City at the Millennium Stadium on 25 May as Holloway's team beat Oldham 2-1 on aggregate.
The QPR manager has endured the pain of relegation, administration and a transfer embargo since taking charge of the club 27 months ago.
"I believe what goes around comes around and this club has had so many downs recently it might be our turn," said Holloway.
"I believe we've got the right ingredients to give ourselves a right chance. These fans deserve it. This place is special. I feel so proud. We've got a hell of a chance to be a big club now.
"I know we're struggling financially but I hope I get a new suit out of it.
It was an entertaining game full of passion but the result just makes us more determined |
"We need some good clobber because I want us to feel great in Cardiff. Maybe someone could sponsor us?"
After the game had finished, in an emotional address on the pitch, Holloway promised Queens Park Rangers fans they will be watching First Division football next season.
The QPR manager made the pledge in a delirious microphone address on the Loftus Road pitch.
He told the fans: "We will win it! Thank you for your support - you've put QPR on the map. This is a proper football club. See you in Cardiff."
His opposite number Iain Dowie, who ended his playing career with QPR and was briefly manager for two matches before Holloway was appointed, wished his old club well.
He also insisted his players should hold their heads up high despite a late red card for Wayne Andrews.
He said: "My players should take it with a huge amount of pride. We will take defeat in a graceful manner. The players were outstanding and have been all year.
"It was an entertaining game full of passion but the result just makes us more determined."
