King's return from suspension boosted the hosts and he almost put them in front in the early stages, denied from outside the box only by the excellent Loach.
Watford, who remain four points outside the play-offs, struggled to find their stride in the opening tussles and Weimann's powerful volley that whistled just past the post was their best effort of the first half.
Bell lashed wide from 20 yards for Coventry before he set up McSheffrey to score and despite Watford bringing on Will Buckley and Daniel Drinkwater at the break, the hosts remained in the ascendancy.
Gunnarsson nodded McSheffrey's corner against the woodwork and after Drinkwater slammed a free-kick into the wall and Graham scuffed a shot, Jutkiewicz made it 2-0 with his first touch.
Weimann's 12-yard curler forced Westwood into action and the keeper came to Coventry's rescue once again when he plucked Adam Thompson's dangerous cross out of the air with several Watford players waiting to pounce.
