Substitute Tarmo Kink scored twice as Middlesbrough came from behind to beat Burnley and take some of the heat off under-fire boss Gordon Strachan.
Burnley went ahead when Andre Bikey, who had already nodded against a post, headed in a Graham Alexander free-kick.
Strachan responded by introducing Kink on 75 minutes and the Estonian winger drilled home from 20 yards to equalise.
And in the fourth minute of added time, Kink rifled home a 25-yard free-kick after Alexander had fouled Leroy Lita.
Strachan dropped Kink, Nicky Bailey and Kris Boyd from the Boro team that lost 3-0 at QPR on Saturday and the much-changed hosts had a golden opportunity to open the scoring in the fourth minute.
Lita whipped in a dangerous cross that his strike partner Scott McDonald inexplicably scooped over from close range.
McDonald drew a sharp save from Brian Jensen before blazing over before Burnley created their first chance of note when Chris Iwelumo headed Ross Wallace's measured delivery beyond the crossbar.
Another testing centre from Wallace led to Clarets centre-back Bikey thumping a header against the post, while at the other end Jensen produced an eye-catching double save from Gary O'Neill.
But Burnley cranked up the intensity and gained their reward when Alexander delivered a dangerous set-piece and Bikey made no mistake with thumping a header past Jason Steele.
A disappointing attendance of 15,033 at the Riverside - just 400 more than the record low Boro recorded in their last home match with Sheffield United - were becoming restless and Strachan turned to Kink in place of O'Neill.
It proved to be a masterstroke when the 24-year-old opened his Boro account on 79 minutes and then won it at the death.
