Watford earned their first victory since the opening day of the season against a lacklustre Bristol City.
Marvin Sordell notched his third goal in two games in the second minute, latching on to Adrian Mariappa's knock-down from a corner.
Sordell was then denied by a fine save from David James in the 21st minute.
But Danny Graham sealed the win just after the interval when he latched on to John Eustace's long ball and fired past James via a deflection.
City's only clear-cut chance fell to Danny Rose, on loan from Tottenham, in the second half but the midfielder's low shot was superbly saved by Hornets keeper Scott Loach.
However, only the intervention of James, playing against the club with whom he began his professional career back in 1988, prevented further misery for the hosts.
The defeat means City, who have conceded eight goals in their first three Championship games at Ashton Gate, have collected just one point from their home fixtures so far this term.
Meanwhile Watford move up to 12th in the table with their first league win since the opening day of the season.
