Keith Millen pleased by Bristol City's response

Millen has got off to a good start as Bristol City boss

New Bristol City boss Keith Millen praised his players for earning a 1-1 draw at Doncaster after a tough week.

Millen was named as Robins boss on Thursday following Steve Coppell's shock resignation from the job.

Damion Stewart's goal looked to have won it for City but Billy Sharp equalised with a last-minute penalty.

"I think the players showed they are with me with the commitment and work rate they put into the game," said former caretaker manager Millen.

"If someone had asked me if I'd be satisfied with a point before the game I would have said yes - I would have taken it.

"But after being in front it's disappointing not to have won the game.

"It's been a difficult week for all of us and you are never quite sure where the lads are mentally until they cross the white line.

"The work rate and togetherness shown by the players really pleased me because that's been the basis of our success in the past.

"The players did everything I asked of them. It's a daunting task here but I'll take it day by day and I'm looking forward to the challenge."

Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll felt his side were good value for a point and praised record signing Sharp for holding his nerve to beat David James from the penalty spot.

"I thought we were the better side by far in the first half. All the things you want your players to do we were doing," he said.

"But I was disappointed with the reaction from everybody - players and crowd - after they scored.

"We weren't brave enough at times to show the patience we required. The crowd want us to smash it forward sometimes but if we're going to do that we might as well walk off the pitch because that's not the way we play.

"Billy Sharp showed what he's made of with the equaliser from the penalty spot. There was a lot of pressure on him to score against the England keeper in the last minute but he stuck it in like a man who was very determined."
