Two late goals ensured Blackpool boss Ian Holloway enjoyed a winning return to his old club, boosting their hopes of landing a berth in the play-offs.
Argyle, six points from safety, and second bottom in the table, had their chances but were flattened by strikes from Charlie Adam and Stephen Dobbie.
Substitute Dobbie played a neat one-two with Adam for Blackpool's opener.
And he then latched on to Barry Bannan's pass to secure only their second away victory since Boxing Day.
Veteran Blackpool defender Ian Evatt had a fine game as he snuffed out two bright moments for Plymouth, blocking a shot from Bradley Wright-Phillips in the first half and another from Jamie Mackie in the second period.
But Blackpool generally produced more attacking threat, Adam clattered the crossbar from long range while the game remained goalless.
Plymouth boss Paul Mariner told BBC Radio Devon: "We had some chance in the first half and we possibly could've been two goals up at half-time but it wasn't to be.
"I've got to tell the fans that there's a lot of fight in this team.
"Until it's mathematically impossible though, we're going to be fighting."
Blackpool manager Ian Holloway: "It was a much better second-half performance, we seemed to forget about our game plan.
"I managed to remind them what I wanted at half time and in the second half we settled down and got a couple of breakaway efforts.
"They were clinically finished off - and that makes the difference."
