An injury-time goal from 16-year-old Connor Wickham earned Ipswich a win against fellow strugglers Scunthorpe.
Ipswich wasted several chances with Pablo Counago having the best, heading against the bar just before half-time.
Scunthorpe captain Cliff Byrne cleared another Counago effort off the line but then earned his third dismissal of the season for a bodycheck on Jack Colback.
Ipswich had Damien Delaney sent off for tripping Jonathan Forte but there was still time for Wickham's winner.
Ipswich manager Roy Keane:
"I'm pleased for Connor, I had a feeling he might have an influence on the game.
"I was surprised by the way it opened up for him and it was a good time to score.
"But it remains to be seen if he's a natural finisher. We'll know in the next few years."
Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins: "We had a good solid, disciplined shape and defended resolutely, but the disappointing thing was one lapse of concentration on 92 minutes.
"It's allowed them to go and get a vital three points.
"Now we'll regroup. We've got a good opportunity and it's about doing everything we can to keep our club in the Championship."
