Iain Hume scored as Barnsley dented Blackpool's top-six prospects and kept their own play-off hopes alive.
A blocked shot from Tykes midfielder Filipe Teixeira was the highlight of an atrocious opening half.
After the restart Matthew Gilks denied Barnsley's Adam Hammill before Jon Macken laid the ball into the path of Hume, who shot into the bottom corner.
Hume, Hammill and Macken wasted further chances as the Tykes moved to four points adrift of the top six.
Barnsley boss Mark Robins: "It was a great, professional performance because Blackpool are a real threat.
"You've got to give them respect because if you don't, they'll turn you over and I thought we nullified the threat really well.
"Once we'd got a foot-hold in the second half, there was only really going to be one winner."
Blackpool boss Ian Holloway: "That didn't look like my team.
"I've never seen them give the ball away so much and there were some major unforced errors.
"Our bonfire's not even smoking. Let's hope it sparks for us next week.
"I can't complain because my boys have been fantastic this season. I'm not happy, but I'm just going to get on the bus and not worry about it too much."
