The 86th league meeting between west Lancashire rivals Preston and Blackpool ended in a disappointing goalless draw.
The Tangerines will be happier with the result, which brings to an end their run of three straight league defeats.
Paul Coutts had Preston's best effort, but his tame 18-yard shot from a Danny Wellbeck pass was easily saved.
The visitors came closest to scoring though, with a DJ Campbell header hitting the bar and Brett Ormerod miscuing from just three yards out.
The result leaves Blackpool and Preston ninth and 11th respectively in the Championship table, as both continue their pursuit of a play-off place.
Blackpool's recent run of poor results has halted what was a superb start to the season, but they will take heart from their positive contribution to this game as they look to revive their challenge.
Arguably they showed the greater promise going forward, and could have taken an early lead, but David Vaughan's volley cleared the crossbar.
Preston's season has been a troubled one but they are beginning to show signs of improvement under boss Darren Ferguson, having won three of their last five matches.
They were not without their chances here and created arguably the best first-half chance when on-loan Manchester United forward Danny Wellbeck was put through by Chris Sedgwick, only to be denied a scoring chance by a Rob Jones tackle.
In addition, Ross Wallace saw a free-kick cleared off the line by Blackpool defender Alex Baptiste.
The home side fashioned the first real chance of the second half with Wellbeck pulling back for Paul Coutts, but his tame side-foot effort from 18 yards was comfortably saved by Michael Gilks.
Then, on 57 minutes, Jon Parkin glanced a header just wide of the left-hand post.
Minutes later Blackpool striker Ormerod should have scored with what looked like a straight forward tap-in, but from close range he scuffed his attempt.
Late on, a combination of Youl Mawene and North End keeper Andy Lonergan helped divert a looping Campbell header onto the crossbar as Preston held on for a share of the spoils.
Preston manager Darren Ferguson:
"Derbies are always tense affairs and it can take a little bit of magic to win them or a mistake from opposition.
"The dressing room is very quiet because they're all disappointed, we wanted to win the game.
"To a man we worked our socks off and there are some very tired legs out there."
Blackpool manager Ian Holloway:
"I stood there and thoroughly enjoyed our performance.
"The script was here for them to beat us and go above us and to be honest I didn't think they looked like doing it.
"Northern people like their football and these two clubs epitomise that. Today I'm very proud of what we're trying to do and our supporters."
