Reading wasted the opportunity to close the gap on the top two in the Championship after drawing at Coventry.
The home team attacked from the start, with Leon Best and Clinton Morrison missing the target while Freddy Eastwood had a shot blocked.
Scott Dann headed straight at Marcus Hahnemann and Guillaume Beuzelin spurned two good chances.
Former Coventry player Jay Tabb went close with a 30-yard-strike that narrowly missed the target.
Coventry manager Chris Coleman: "I thought for long periods we did very well.
"Of course we wanted to win the game today if possible, but it was a hard game.
"I think both teams worked hard but it was good for us not to lose to one of the top three and get another clean sheet."
Reading boss Steve Coppell: "I think over the course of the last two years there have probably been 10 or 11 international breaks and on nine or 10 of those we have then been away from home.
"It doesn't sound as though that should make a difference but when you have players travelling all over the world it does.
"For us to get something out of this game psychologically was very important. Wolves and Birmingham have come here and have been beaten."
