Strikers Marcus Tudgay and Leon Clarke claimed two goals apiece as Sheffield Wednesday upset Burnley at Turf Moor.
Tudgay latched onto Wade Elliot's pass to gleefully dispatching the Owls' first beyond Brain Jensen.
The hosts levelled with Chris McCann's firm header, but Tudgay restored the lead from the edge of the box.
Clarke held off a posse of defenders to score with a low shot and secured the win with a cool finish before Chris Eagles' late free-kick found the net.
Burnley manager Owen Coyle: "We shot ourselves in the foot. We scored two goals but we cannot score two, three or four just because we have defended so poorly.
"They were horrendous mistakes for their goals. I have been saying all season I want to strengthen the squad but it has not been possible.
"We've given away soft goals - we can't keep shooting ourselves in the foot."
Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws:
"We had a meeting about where our season is going. We are in the middle and a couple of bad results will drag us towards the bottom.
"The teams down there are winning and will catch up, but the teams at the top aren't, so which way do we want to go?
"I want to go and try and win games now, so we have to be very open and very attack-minded."
