Charlton claimed a point against fellow strugglers Barnsley at Oakwell but did little to suggest that they will drag themselves out of the relegation mire.
Andranik Teymourian's off-target shot for Barnsley and Mark Hudson's header for Charlton were rare moments of drama in a first half dominated by the hosts.
Charlton could have had a penalty when Chris Dickson was hauled down by Darren Moore but their appeals were rejected.
Dickson and Jamal Campbell-Ryce had late chances but a draw was fair.
Barnsley boss Simon Davey:
"It was a missed opportunity to get three points and it ends up a point gained.
"We didn't play well on the day we know that and we were poor but we ground a result out.
"It was a difficult day with the conditions, the wind was terrible, but at the end of the day a draw was probably a fair result."
Charlton boss Phil Parkinson:
"There are a lot of positives for us, the attitude of the players was excellent and we looked a strong side.
"There were no weak links and we looked a strong and resilient side and we had a couple of chances to go and win it but it just didn't quite fall for us.
"But all in all I can't have any complaints about the spirit and togetherness of the team today."
