QPR's Wayne Routledge is challenged by Chris Armstrong of Reading
Reading slipped four points behind Championship leaders Wolves after a stalemate with QPR at Loftus Road.
The home side should have taken the lead when lively winger Lee Cook swung in a cross from the left but Iceland striker Heidar Helguson headed wide.
For Reading, French midfielder Kalifa Cisse's low drive was pushed around the post by QPR keeper Lee Camp.
Helguson was inches away from converting a Cook cross whilst at the other end Stephen Hunt shot just wide.
QPR boss Paulo Sousa:
"I'm never happy with one point, I always want three, but I'm happy with the performance of my team
"It's not easy to play against a very compact, intelligent and clinical team.
"We needed to be strong and competitive and I felt we were. We controlled the rhythm of the game."
Reading manager Steve Coppell: "It was a difficult pitch for either side to play on.
"All told I would say we edged it, but not by much. There was a terrific work-rate from both teams and it was a shame there wasn't goals in it somewhere."
