Preston 2-0 Bristol City

Preston moved into the Championship play-off places with an impressive home win over Bristol City.

The visitors started brightly at a foggy Deepdale with the influential Michael McIndoe controlling the game.

But Stephen Elliott slotted home from Ross Wallace's cross after 29 minutes to put the hosts in charge.

And Wallace himself doubled that lead with a deflected strike from outside the penalty area in the 54th minute as Preston began to control possession.

Preston boss Alan Irvine:
"We can't get carried away. The Championship is so tough and so tight. There are so many hard games coming up and I'm already starting to think about the next one.

"The lads are feeling good about themselves. They know as well we have the majority of our squad fit again, and that's great for us. It gives us options, strength on the bench and in the stand.

"We knew we would have to be right defensively and hopefully that would provide a platform for us."

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson:
"We've found ourselves dropping down the league a little bit and we'll have to work very hard over the next four or five games before Christmas.

"We created early chances, like we did in the Watford game on Tuesday, but we didn't take them.

"We're not having a great deal of luck but we were also too powder-puff in our finishing.

"If you don't take your chances when they come along in the Championship then the opposition teams are good enough to put you under pressure and make you pay."
