Charlton 0-0 Southampton

Charlton were guilty of missing a host of first half chances but were forced to hold on after the interval in their goalless draw against Southampton.

Mark Hudson shot wide from close range for the Addicks, before Hameur Bouazza was denied by keeper Kelvin Davis.

Southampton did find their rhythm and Bradley Wright-Phillips drove just wide from the edge of the box.

Charlton keeper Nicky Weaver saved well to keep out David McGoldrick's effort before making a fine double save.

Charlton caretaker boss Phil Parkinson:

"I think we have a very good chance (of avoiding relegation)

"Confidence does not come over night. It is built brick by brick and we have to build now, it is slowly coming back.

"In terms of drive and determination in the team and the way we attacked the game, I cannot fault that."

Southampton manager Jan Poortvliet:

"A clean sheet is important because we are growing as a team. We now have to start winning home games.

"Charlton had a lot of loan players and showed a lot of fighting spirit, we never knew what it was going to be like coming here with their new caretaker manager coming in.

"My goalkeeper was special in the first half and we were special in the second. We created some chances, which maybe we should have taken, but I'm very happy."
