Tommy Smith scored his ninth goal of the season to earn Watford a draw at Bristol City.
The home side went in front when Nicky Maynard lifted the ball over Scott Loach and into the back of the net.
However, their lead lasted less than two minutes as Jon Harley fed Smith who passed the ball beyond City goalkeeper Adriano Basso into the bottom corner.
New Hornets manager Brendan Rodgers was a spectator as caretaker boss Malkay Mackay took control of his final game.
Bristol City boss Gary Johnson: "It was the old story of being most vulnerable after scoring.
"I'm disappointed we didn't close down Tommy Smith when he scored. He used to be in my Academy at Watford so I probably taught him to shoot like that!
"We need to start turning our home draws into victories. But we are still well placed, and not far off the play-off positions."
Outgoing Watford caretaker-manager Malky Mackay:
"I couldn't have asked for more from the players.
"After a brilliant result against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, they again demonstrated their togetherness at a very difficult venue.
"They worked hard for each other and it's disappointing to be going home with only one point."
