Charlton 2-1 Ipswich

A Moritz Volz own goal secured victory for Charlton against Ipswich and helped ease the pressure on boss Alan Pardew.

Nicky Bailey's superb free-kick gave the home side the lead, but a Martin Cranie own-goal drew Ipswich level.

Ivan Campo's free-kick hit the woodwork for Ipswich, while an audacious effort from Alan Quinn rattled the crossbar.

Charlton were denied a penalty after Luke Varney was sythed down, but the Addicks won it as Volz got the final touch on Darren Ambrose's cross.

Charlton boss Alan Pardew:
"My emotion afterwards was relief for Charlton as a club, we really needed that win. The pressure was on.

"When you've been manager of West Ham for four years you get used to pressure, but this week has been tough.

"I've not been sleeping too well, but I can sleep tonight."

Ipswich boss Jim Magilton:
"I'll have to have a look at the free-kick, I'm not sure a goalkeeper should be beaten on that side.

"At half-time I thought we could go on and win it but then an experienced Premier League defender gets beaten on the wrong side.

"But we were competitive and showed a real desire to try to get something which is exactly what you want."
