Goals from Jordan Robertson and David McGoldrick helped Southampton see off 10-man Norwich to claim their first home Championship win of the season.
Robertson marked his debut by scoring the opener, finding himself in space on the left and firing home from 25 yards.
Omar Koroma went close twice for Norwich as the visitors responded well.
But City had Dejan Stefanovic sent off for fouling Adam Lallana and McGoldrick stepped up to score Southampton's second goal from the resulting penalty.
Southampton head coach Jan Poortvliet: "He is strong and a good passer of the ball and a motivated young man.
"His goal gave us a lift and some confidence, and this is what we have been lacking at times this season.
"We are unbeaten in four league matches now and we have gained eight points - so I have to be pleased."
Norwich City manager Glenn Roeder told BBC Radio Norfolk:
"I'm hugely disappointed with the official, as you know I've got to be careful what I say, you should be able to speak your mind, but you know you can't.
"I've viewed the penalty incident several times, in my opinion it's not a foul, and secondly it's not even in the box.
"It's just outside the box, and the referee's got a great view of it."
