James Beattie's first goal of the season ensured Sheffield United bounced back from their 6-0 midweek Carling Cup defeat at Arsenal with a home win.
The Blades took the lead inside the first minute when Billy Sharp's square pass left Gary Speed with a tap-in.
John-Joe O'Toole equalised after the break when he stooped low to head Tommy Smith's corner beyond Paddy Kenny.
But United secured the win when Sharpe, who was put through by Stephen Quinn, crossed for Beattie to head home.
