Chris Eagles was sent off for Burnley in a drab match against Plymouth which finished goalless at Turf Moor.
Midfielder Eagles, a summer signing from Manchester United, was shown a straight red card for foul and abusive language with eight minutes remaining.
Burnley's Chris McCann had one of the best chances, but his volley was saved by Plymouth's goalkeeper Graham Stack.
Plymouth had no real chances and Stack had to make one last save from Joey Gudjonsson to deny the home team.
Burnley manager Owen Coyle: "I never saw anything but I will take a look at it (Eagles dismissal).
"If it is an act of petulance he will be punished for that, we will not stand for that. He is a quality player but now he will be missing a few games.
"You can't get frustrated and you try to get that across to young players but they must learn that quickly."
Plymouth manager Paul Sturrock:"We didn't deserve any more than a point, we are a team finding our feet at the moment.
"We will learn on the road but we have got to put three points on the board at our next home game."
