Burnley 0-3 Ipswich

Ipswich defeated Burnley in a match that was delayed for an hour after a parachutist landed on a stand.

The match eventually started with the jumper, one of seven delivering the match ball, still on the roof.

Jamie Trotter volleyed through a crowd of players to put Ipswich ahead before Kevin Lisbie scored a rebound after Brian Jensen blocked his first attempt.

Stephen Jordan headed into his own net before Steven Caldwell hit the post to end a miserable afternoon for Burnley.

The fire brigade were called to bring the parachutist down, with the match unable to start until his safety had been assured.

But the situation was further complicated when the fire engine could not enter the ground because of parked cars blocking the entrance.

The PA announcer at the ground has to appeal for the owners to move the cars before the fire engine could enter and resolve the situation.

Burnley boss Owen Coyle: "We never took our chances, conceded soft goals and if it means a change of personel until we get it right, that's what we'll do.

"Ultimately, I take responsibility as I pick the team but I never envisaged conceding goals like that.

"We need to roll our sleeves up, there is plenty of effort but we can't continue to give away goals."

Ipswich boss Jim Magilton: "It wasn't a classic but it was important for us to get off the mark.

"We took our limited chances and stopped them playing. It took us until Christmas to win away last season, so that's progress.

"Defensively, we were fairly solid and we looked half decent, but we didn't control the ball enough when we were 2-0 up."
