Hull boss Phil Brown paid tribute to his promotion-winning side and singled out veteran pair Dean Windass and Nicky Barmby after beating Bristol City 1-0.
Windass' 38th minute strike settled a tense Championship play-off final at Wembley, securing Premier League football for Hull next season.
"It is very fitting that Dean Windass got the winning goal," said Brown.
"I think it was written in the gods that it would be Dean Windass or Nicky Barmby who would get the winner today."
After missing out on automatic promotion to Stoke City, Brown admitted that it was special to get promoted at Wembley
"The players have tried hard all season and thoroughly deserve it. It is fantastic feeling to do it here in front of all of these supporters," he said.
"Now comes the challenge but there are success stories of Portsmouth and Bolton and if the chairman backs me in the Premier League who knows how far we can go?"
Windass' goal came courtesy of a fine 18-yard volley after Frazier Campbell had crossed to the edge of the area.
In a game of few chances, Windass' strike proved to be the difference.
The 39-year-old said: "It feels unbelievable. I don't think there is anyone left in Hull today looking at how many supporters we've got here.
"To score the wining goal is fantastic. We've worked hard from the start of the season and we've got our rewards.
"I've never been here [Wembley] before so to get the winner is a great feeling.
"It was a great ball from Frazier Campbell and I couldn't believe it went in the top corner.
The game is reportedly worth �60m to the winners and Hull chairman Paul Duffin couldn't contain his delight after victory.

"This is fantastic, I think it's amazing," he told BBC Radio 5 Live. "It is something which means a lot to the city of Hull.
"Everyone's been magnificent and I've been proud to be a part of this team. This is for the 'tiger nation' past and present.
"We've had a fantastic fan base for 104 years and that's why we can mount a respectable challenge to try to finish 17th or better next season.
"It's great for the city for us to be going to Old Trafford and Anfield next year.
"The great thing is we're going to be the underdogs, so it will be nice to be off the radar and maybe surprise a few people."
