Manager Ian Holloway says Leicester's players must "fight until they drop" as they look to avoid relegation.
Southampton's away draw at West Brom on Monday means the Foxes are only out of the drop zone on goal difference.
And only a win over high-flying Stoke in the final game of the season will ensure they stay in the Championship.
"It's vital we stay up," he told BBC Radio Leicester. "This will be the hardest week of the players' lives but they must face up to the challenge."
The Foxes face a daunting trip to automatic promotion-hopefuls Stoke on Sunday while Saints have a home game against play-off chasing Sheffield United.
Holloway added: "We have got to fight until we drop. We've got to go to Stoke and get something.
"That is not an easy scenario. I'm devastated. We could have been out of this.
"But we haven't won two games on the spin all season which is disgusting."
City midfielder Matt Oakley said consistency had been the main problem for the Foxes but hoped the side would raise their game against the Potters.
"One minute we're up and one minute we're down," he said. "We can't put a string of results together.
"Hopefully the results will go right for us and we'll get a bigger performance on Sunday."
