Lee Hendrie scored his first goal for Leicester to give the Foxes a vital win over fellow strugglers Scunthorpe.
The former Aston Villa midfielder curled in a sublime shot past keeper Joe Murphy and in off the post.
Murphy also kept out a header from striker Steve Howard and three efforts from Matty Fryatt.
Nigel Adkins' visitors tried vailiantly in strong winds but their best effort came from the boot of Ian Morris whose volley flew narrowly over the post.
Leicester boss Ian Holloway: "There are other teams in massive trouble. More than us.
"If you look at our run-in it is in our own hands with the teams we've got to come here.
"I don't believe that we are not going to win two games in a row this season but one more might do it."
Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins: "We are still in there but we are under no illusions that it is an uphill battle.
"Mathematically we still have a chance to stay in the Championship and we will keep going.
"We need to win the last six - there's no hiding that but stranger things have happened. Some of our players aren't good enough to play at this level."
