Vincent Pericard squandered Saints' best chance of the first half but blazed over the bar after he was put through by Mario Licka.
Kaspar Schmeichel then denied Stern John who kept out Stern John's header with a spectacular save.
Michael Mifsud came close for City but Richard Wright dealt with his low shot.
"If we go into every game with that attitude and commitment we will have a much better chance of survival.
"There was always going to be a lot of pressure, but we'll play worse than that and win."
