Charlton 1-1 West Brom

Kevin Phillips' strike helped West Brom come away from Charlton with a point to keep up the pressure on their Championship promotion rivals.

Greg Halford scored the opener for the home side when he headed in Darren Ambrose's free-kick into the bottom corner of Dean Kiely's goal.

But just before the break Phillips grabbed his 21st goal of the season when smashed in from close range.

West Brom's Zoltan Gera struck the bar with a volley in the closing moments.

  • Charlton boss Alan Pardew:
"We were desperate for a win today, no-one more so than myself. I thought it was a good game and a draw was probably a fair result.

"We feel we can still make the play-offs. The percentage chance of us doing it has gone down.

"We need four or five wins now - but we are more than capable of doing that."

  • West Brom boss Tony Mowbray:
"This league is full of competitive football teams that go out of their way to stop other teams playing.

"It is hard to win matches but I feel the right way of playing is to score goals and entertain the public.

"I'm quite jealous of Charlton's squad list - they have a wonderful squad of players so for us to come here and dominate from start to finish is good."
