Preston 2-1 Wolves

Simon Whaley struck a superb winner 10 minutes from full-time as Preston came from behind to beat Wolves.

Substitute striker Andy Keogh gave the visitors the lead with a neat finish in the 51st minute before North End equalised from the penalty spot.

Jody Craddock hauled down Chris Brown and defender Callum Davidson smashed home the resulting penalty.

Whaley secured the win when he turned sharply on the edge of the area and rifled his shot into the bottom corner.

  • Preston manager Alan Irvine:
"It was a fantastic result against a good team. I thought it was a good game, it was open and entertaining and both teams created chances.

"It could have really gone either way. I felt we probably just shaded it.

"Since the turn of the year they have been fantastic to work with, but we have a long way to go yet. I still think we need to get 54 points."

  • Wolves manager Mick McCarthy on the penalty decision:
"I have articulated my thoughts to the referee very politely and pleasantly.

"Of course it changed the game, then we defended badly for the second goal which was a fabulous finish.

"I thought our performance as a whole was okay. When we scored the goal we were on top. We should have gone on and finished it."
