Sheff Wed 1-0 Cardiff
Sheffield Wednesday climbed out of the relegation zone after Marcus Tudgay's first half strike sealed an unlikely win over promotion-hunting Cardiff.

The visitors dominated the match with Aaron Ramsey hitting the post, Gavin Rae heading just over and Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink keeping Lee Grant busy.

But Tudgay's eight-yard strike against the run of play four minutes from the break was enough for the three points.

Cardiff have now gone four games without a win in the Championship.

  • Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws:
"It was a pleasing win, let me tell you that. Just for the simple reason that it's given us a huge lift looking at the table and seeing us out of the bottom three for the first time for a while.

"This is what we've got to do. Each step we take has to be a big step and certainly three points is a big step for us today.

"Every game becomes a cup final and we're going to need a lot of help. The supporters were tremendous the way they got behind the team. They never stopped."

  • Cardiff boss Dave Jones:
"We should have won the game. They've not caused us any problems today whatsoever. Even the goal we should not have conceded and that's lack of concentration at the back.

"We'd made the game easy by working really hard and you've got to keep the backdoor shut, but that's what happens at all levels of football.

"We gave them hope and we gave them something to hang on to, which they did."
