Danny Haynes' fortuitous goal on the stroke of half-time was enough for Ipswich to overcome play-off rivals Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. The forward knew little about his fifth goal of the season when he deflected in Richard Naylor's volley with his head.
Clinton Morrison missed two decent chances to level in the space of a minute for the below-par hosts.
He first slipped when attempting to hook home Danny Butterfield's cross and then fired wide from in close in.
Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock:
"I thought one or two experienced players let us down. I was disappointed with certain areas tonight and I've let the players know. "We are persevering, and we'll need some players over the summer which is when we will do our business.
"But we certainly won't give up on the play-offs, anyone can get into them."
Ipswich boss Jim Magilton:
"I told the players to use the frustration from Saturday's defeat and take it out on Palace and they did. "We got our just rewards. Everybody stood up to everything they threw at us. It was a wonderful three points.
"That's two away games and two wins - now we have to sort our home form."
