Lee Grant produced a wonder-save to help Sheffield Wednesday hold out for a goalless draw at Southampton. Grant frustrated the hosts when he somehow tipped Bradley Wright-Phillips' goalbound effort around the post.
The Owls also threatened, with Burton O'Brien testing Saints keeper Kelvin Davis and Richard Hinds heading over from the resulting corner.
Adam Hammill shot wide when well placed for Southampton and he was denied again by Grant from 18 yards before the end.
Southampton boss George Burley:
"It's disappointing to create so many chances and I felt we deserved to get
the three points.
"Stern John has been magnificent for us recently and has scored some very good
goals, but it wasn't his day.
"Bradley Wright-Phillips had some great
chances to score as did others in the team, but unfortunately we couldn't take them."
Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws on Saints looking for revenge after the Owls' 5-0 win last month:
"They are still smarting and I knew they would really come at us.
"I felt we dealt with that really well and got the ball down and played some nice football at times.
"We would always take a point from a difficult away trip when you have come so far on a Tuesday night."
