Matt Holland takes the congratulations after the first goal |
High-flying Charlton added to Cardiff's woes with a comprehensive win over the woeful Bluebirds at Ninian Park. Joe Ledley's headed clearance from a corner fell to Matt Holland on the edge of the area, his low volley flying past unsighted goalkeeper Kasper Scmeichel.
After the break, Darren Purse slipped then pulled down Darren Ambrose in the box, Andy Reid scoring the penalty.
Cardiff failed to muster a credible threat on goal all game and left with fans calling for boss Dave Jones' head.
Cardiff manager Dave Jones:
"It's hard to explain how we can go from recent hard, battling displays to that, you think the players are up for it then this happens. "That's the worst performance I've seen from us for a very long time, it was lazy minded. I won't blame the court case.
"We haven't dealt with a corner for the first goal and we've then let that affect us.
"The whole performance was not acceptable. I'm the man in charge, so I'll accept the abuse at the end."
Charlton manager Alan Pardew:
"This was a big win for us. I would have preferred to win in front of our home fans at The Valley but you have to take the points when you can. "We have to be more patient at home. Sometimes we are trying to win games before we have got control.
"On Saturday we gave away three goals - and you can't do that at any level.
"I thought that this time we looked a very good side - and we need to take that discipline into our home games."
