Darren Ambrose struck twice against his former club as Charlton kept up their promotion bid at The Valley. Ipswich are still without an away win this season and fell behind after six minutes when Ambrose headed home.
Chris Iwelumo made it two with a stooping header and Charlton were cruising as Ambrose rifled in a low drive from the edge of the area.
Town got their consolation in the 70th minute when Counago backheeled past Weaver from 10 yards.
Charlton boss Alan Pardew:
"In the first half we were sublime. It's nice to be able to show the fans what we can do. "It's very important to get your home form going if you are going to win promotion. We changed it around a bit and didn't give Ipswich a sniff.
"The second half was strange. But I cannot take anything away from a fantastic win."
Ipswich boss Jim Magilton:
"The first half performance was totally unacceptable, inept and embarrasing. "We set a team out to match them but in the first half we never got near them. We lacked character and bravery especially in midfield and that really disappointed me.
"I felt that after the break we had a performance that showed some pride but we can't keep giving teams two and three goal starts.
