Patrick Agyemang had scored Preston's first league goal of the season with a low finish after a poor clearance from keeper Dimi Konstantopoulos.
But with 10 minutes left Dele Adebola equalised with a superb turn and shot in the penalty area.
And Doyle ensured a happy ending for Coventry with his 25-yard effort.
Preston manager Paul Simpson:
"I am gutted and massively disappointed with the result but pleased with the level of the performance. "But you are judged on results and there are a lot of disappointed players in there.
"We have a two-week break now to get as many things as possible addressed."
